Thousands attended funeral honors to the fallen in the Matanzas fire

More than 15 thousand Cubans participated in the funeral honors of those who died in the confrontation of the fire of great proportions that affected the western province of Matanzas.
 
During the day, the population braved the intense heat and the rain to express, in the Firefighters Museum of the city, their respect and gratitude to those who died in the line of duty during the fight against the fire that started last August 5 in the city's Industrial Zone.
 

Indian Peoples Dispatch highlights Cuban vaccine production in Italy

The collaboration between Cuba and Italy to combat the Covid-19 pandemic is moving forward with the signing of a memorandum for the production of vaccines from the Caribbean nation, the Indian international news portal Peoples Dispatch reported Saturday.
 
The People Dispatch pointed out that Cuba established its scientific prowess by creating five immunizers to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.
 
The publication noted that three of them, whose use was approved, proved a 90 percent efficacy, among the highest in the world.
 

Cuba undertakes recovery actions after Matanzas fire

The Matanzas Electric Company started on Wednesday the process of testing the affected circuit breaker fields in the 110 kilovolt (KV) Marti substation, as part of the recovery after the biggest fire in Cuba.
 
This enclave provides services to five 33 KV lines that feed the industrial zone, where the accident took place, the neighborhood of Versalles and downtown Matanzas, hence the importance of rescuing it.
 

Official mourning declared in tribute to those killed in Matanzas fire

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez decreed official mourning, which will be observed from 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, until 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19.
 
The news was announced by the prime-time Cuban television newscast.
 
When the news was released, it was pointed out that the control and extinguishing of the fire at the tanker base in Matanzas was a heroic act in which personal and collective courage prevailed. It represented a new epic for the Cuban people.
 

Cuba expresses gratitude for Mexico and Venezuela’s solidarity

Amid the intense work Cuba is currently carrying out to rescue the dead of the fire that affected the western city of Matanzas, there is no lack of spaces here to express gratitude for Mexico and Venezuela's solidarity.
 
Authorities, institutions, organizations and the population in general acknowledge the immediate response and commitment by those nations that, with specialized forces and resources, contributed to control and extinguish the large-scale fire that broke out at the Matanzas Supertanker Base after a lightning strike.
 

Cuban Prime Minister arrives in Bahamas for CARICOM heads of government meeting

Cuba's Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz arrived on Monday in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, where he will participate in the first Regional Meeting of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), slated for Tuesday.
 
The meeting is being held in preparation for the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), scheduled to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, from November 7 to 18.
 
COP27 will address progress in implementing the Paris Agreement and since COP26, held in late 2021 in Glasgow.
 

Cuba celebrates 96th anniversary of Fidel Castro

Residents of Santiago de Cuba,  representing the Cuban people, paid tribute to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, at the Santa Ifigenia patrimonial cemetery, on this August 13, the 96th anniversary of his birth.
 
They laid flowers before the stone monument where the ashes of the Cuban Hero rest in the Corridor of Honor of the graveyard of the Eastern city.
 

Cuban academic and cultural centers evoke Fidel Castro’s legacy

Academic and cultural institutions in Cuba have evoked the imprint of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, on his 96th birthday on Saturday.
 
The National Center for Art Schools alluded to the leading role granted by Fidel Castro to education and referred to his speech during the closing ceremony of the 2003 Pedagogy Congress at the Karl Marx Theater on February 7, 2003.
 

More aid from Mexico and Venezuela arrives in Cuba

Mexico and Venezuela sent further assistance to Cuba in response to the catastrophe caused by the large-scale fire affecting the Supertanker Base in the western city of Matanzas.

 

According to a Cuban television report, a Mexican Air Force plane brought humanitarian cargo for the population of that city.

 

This is the fifth flight since Saturday from that country. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was among the first to respond to the Cuban request for international cooperation to face the difficult situation.
