A photo exhibit and a concert are included in a number of activities organized by Cuban youngsters to celebrate the 89th birthday of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro –- commemorated on August 13th.
According to the secretary general of Cuba's Young Communist League (UJC), Roberto Conde, the activities will begin on August 10th, with the opening of a photo exhibit on Fidel Castro at the headquarters of the Juventud Rebelde newspaper.
The Russian embassy in Cuba has announced several cultural activities to give continuity to the celebration this year of the 55th anniversary of the restoration of relations between the two countries.
The First Counselor of the Russian embassy Andrey Mitrofanov highlighted the tribute that will be held on August 7th to the great opera singer Mariana de Gonitch, a Russian living here in Cuba since 1940 and founder of the first singing academy, and teacher of the greatest generation of Cuban opera singers.
President Dilma Rousseff expressed her appreciation for the contribution of thousands of Cuban doctors to improve health care in Brazil.
"I would like to say that you contribute, with your work, to strengthen relations between Cuba and Brazil," said Rousseff in a ceremony to mark the second anniversary of the program “More Doctors.”
Cuba''s President Raul Castro expressed the deepest condolences to Vietnam for the death of 17 people until now, and material losses, after heavy rains in the northern province of Quanh Ninh.
On behalf of the Cuban government and people, I extend this condolences to the relatives of the victims and affected people, the Cuban statesman said in a message sent to General Secretary of the Communist Party, Nguyen Phu Trong, President of the Republic, Truong Tan Sang, and Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung.
Bolivian President Evo Morales has called for the lifting of the U.S. blockade against Cuba imposed for over 50 years and for the return of the illegally occupied Guantanamo Naval Base.
At a press conference in the Government Palace in La Paz, the Bolivian president said that the process to re-establish relations between Cuba and the United States is a resounding victory of the people and the Cuban Revolution. And he added: "We hope that President Barack Obama lifts the economic blockade and returns the Guantanamo Bay.”
The 11th International Festival for Peace, as every year, is celebrated in the northern German town of Graal-Müritz. The festival called for the renovation of the bonds of friendship between the peoples of both nations -- Cuba and Germany.
The official website of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the event brought together figures from the German political and social scene, and was also attended by Cuban Ambassador in Berlin, René Juan Mujica.
Cuban young people will pay honor to Revolution Commanders Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro during an historic tour named “From Bolivar to Marti,” August 6th to the 19th in central Cuba.
The tour will begin in the town of Bolivar, in the province of Santi Spiritus, and will end in the Matanzas municipality of Marti. The program is aimed at bringing young generations closer to Cuba's glorious chapters of history.
Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams had the banner of Cuba hoisted above the New York State flag on a pole atop Brooklyn Borough Hall -– celebrating both his second annual International Day of Friendship, scheduled for Sunday, and the renewal of diplomatic relations with the Caribbean nation, according to a report by the New York Observer on Friday.
Works by Manuel Lopez Oliva, Flora Fong, Moises Finalé and Luis E. Camejo, icons of Cuban art, will be presented as part of the exhibition "Miradas", to be opened on August 10th at the Cultural Center of Deputies in Brasilia.
The exhibition will remain open until September 5th –- coinciding with the first anniversary of the opening of the Havana gallery Artis 718, of the Cuban Fund of Cultural Assets -- co-sponsor of this exhibition.
A tribute from Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro Ruz and Army General Raúl Castro Ruz to Frank País García and all those who fell in the final stage of the country’s freedom struggles, was presented during the act to commemorate the 58th anniversary of the murder of the July 26 Movement’s head of Action and Sabotage, this July 30, Martyrs of the Revolution day.
