This eastern city’s residents and invited guests gathered yesterday, February 18, to honor the patriot Pedro Figueredo, composer of the music and lyrics of Cuba’s national anthem, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his birth.
Alongside the bust of Figueredo, at the foot of the statue of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes in the Plaza de la Revolución, a floral wreath was placed during a commemoration, with the notes of work playing in the background, as it was first heard just a few meters away, October 20, 1868.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs warns of the seriousness of the message of arrogance and contempt with which the Secretary of State of the United States began a tour of several countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Cuban ambassador to France, Elio Rodríguez, and the rector of the Academy of Paris, Gilles Pécout, have signed an agreement aimed at strengthening academic cooperation between the parties, diplomatic sources informed today.
According to a statement, the deal was signed at the headquarters of the Paris-Sorbonne University, in order to also promote exchange in the technical-professional training.

When we begin to talk about Martí and Fidel, the commonalities are clearly evident. Looking at the work of each one and the ideas that marked their lives, we see how much the two men separated in time shared.
UNITY
José Martí: Unity of thought, which in no way means servitude to opinion, is without a doubt an indispensable condition to success in all political projects.
Fidel: One of the factors that gave our revolutionary process extraordinary strength was unity.
PATRIOTISM
Cuban President Raúl Castro Ruz met Wednesday in Havana with Song Tao, head of the International Relations Office of the Communist Party of China, who traveled to Havana as a special envoy of Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China and Secretary General of the country's Communist Party.
The visit aimed to share information about agreements adopted at the recently held 19th Congress of Chinese communists.
Fidel Castro was a man of Martí's ideas and patriotic sentiments. In one of his many statements regarding the legacy of José Martí, he said, "The audacity, the beauty, the value, and the morality of his thought helped me to become what I believe I am today: a revolutionary."
The United States government announced yesterday, January 23, the creation of a new Internet Task Force, aimed at subverting Cuba’s internal order.
“The Department of State is convening a Cuba Internet Task Force composed of U.S. government and non-governmental representatives to promote the free and unregulated flow of information in Cuba. The task force will examine the technological challenges and opportunities for expanding internet access and independent media in Cuba,” according to the body’s official website.
The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security, Federica Mogherini, said that while some try to isolate Cuba, Europeans are closer than ever to Cubans in their rejection of the U.S. economic blockade against the island.
In a keynote address before a hundred students at San Geronimo College in Havana, the diplomat advocated for the building of bridges and the opening of doors through cooperation and dialogue with the island.
