Meeting with Miguel Ángel Pérez (2013) 05

Meeting with Venezuelan philosopher, writer and journalist Miguel Ángel Pérez Pirela, with whom he discussed contemporary history and a number of topics of national current affairs.

The time of duty

The medical staff that is ready to go to any region to save lives, even at the risk of losing their own, is the best example of solidarity that human beings can offer, particularly if they are not moved by any material interest.  Their closest relatives are also contributing to that mission a part of what they love and admire the most. A country seasoned by long years of struggle can fully understand what is being expressed here.

That which can never be forgotten

Yesterday morning, on Sunday October 12, the Sunday internet edition of The New York Times – a newspaper which under certain circumstances follows the political line most convenient to its country’s interests – published an article entitled “Obama should end the embargo on Cuba;” with opinions as to how, in its view, the country should proceed.

THE UNCERTAIN FUTURE

Throughout his evolution, Homo sapiens as the only thinking being among millions of living species never had any idea about nature and the reason for his existence.  Endowed with the ability to think, he was governed by harsh instincts.  He knew nothing about the rest of his marvelous planet.  We don’t even know at what moment he possesses that capability; in rare cases it is stated that it was a million years ago, or a bit more, but in general it is considered to be no more than 200,000 years.

IF FAIR IDEAS DO NOT TRIUMPH, DISASTER WILL

World society knows no truce in recent years, particularly since the European Economic Community under the resolute and unyielding leadership of the United States thought that the time had come to settle the score with what remained of two great nations that, inspired by the ideas of Marx, had carried out the deed to put an end to the colonial and imperialist order imposed upon the world by Europe and the United States.

It is time to know a little more about realities

I have asked the editors of Granma to relieve me of the honor of publishing what I write on the front page of the official organ of our Party, since I am thinking of expressing personal points of view on issues which, for obvious reasons of health and time, I have not been able to present in the collective leadership bodies of the Party or state, such as Party Congresses or pertinent meetings of the National Assembly of People’s Power.

BIZARRE PROVOCATION

Cuba, always in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and in the difficult days following the Chernobyl tragedy caring for the health of many children affected by the harmful radiation of the accident, and who will always be ready to keep on doing this, cannot pass by the opportunity to declare its repudiation of the action by that anti-Russian, anti-Ukrainian, pro-imperialist government.

Message to the 11th United Nations Conference on Trade and Development

The UNCTAD, an organization founded 40 years ago, was a noble attempt by the underdeveloped world to create in the United Nations, through fair and rational international trade, an instrument to serve its aspirations of progress and development. There were lots of hopes then and the naïve idea that the former metropolises were aware of the duty and the necessity to share that goal.
