Funeral for the victims of the bombing attack on Cuban airports

Faced with the danger of an imminent armed invasion of Cuba, the 15th of April 1961 was marked by criminal bombing attacks on the airports of San Antonio de los Baños, Ciudad Libertad and Santiago de Cuba, carried out by American planes coming from Guatemala; seven died, among them young Eduardo García Delgado who, before dying, wrote the name of the leader of the Revolution in his own blood: Fidel.

Bestowing the Order of José Martí on Alicia Alonso

Alicia Alonso, the Cuban ballerina, received the Order of José Martí, the highest decoration granted by the Council of State of Cuba, from Commander in Chief Fidel Castro. Visibly moved, Alicia Alonso said: "This honour I am receiving is very great and I think it is not for me, it is for our people who have shown that great homeland and who dance. Because of that, I exist".

The crowd in front of the Presidential Palace

Before a huge crowd of Havana workers and citizens gathered in front of the Presidential Palace, he declared that: “When they see we are united, the enemy will respect us.  Nobody has the right to draw up guidelines for Cuba from abroad.”
