WFDY General Assembly Concludes in Cuba
The 19th General Assembly of the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) will conclude today in this capital, after some days of debates in the presence of about 150 representatives of 80 youth groups from 51 countries.
According to the official agenda of activities today, the closing ceremony of this event will take place, including the reading of the Final Declaration of the General Assembly of WFDY.
The so-called Festival of Nationalities will be also carried out, including a concert under the slogan "Youth united for peace."
Since the beginning of the event on Monday, Nov. 9, youth leaders condemned the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed for more than 50 years by the United States against Cuba, which persists despite the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Participants also expressed their support to the government of Venezuela against the economic war imposed on the bourgeoisie of that country and the international rightwing, and the commitment to achieve greater cohesion to defend more efficiently the progressive causes of the world.
They also attended a meeting of the International Committee of the Cuban Young Communist League, where they learned about the results of the 10th Congress of the organization held in July, and details of the island's present situation.
In the context of this General Assembly, WFDY also celebrated its 70th anniversary of its foundation with a cultural gala, in which a recognition was delivered to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, due to his support to the work of that organization, and its support to the cause of young people in the world.
The General Assembly is the highest body and a space for the most important political debate of the youth organizations, members, and friends of WFDY.
