Venezuelans Recall Constitutional Proclamation
Thousands of Venezuelans celebrate Tuesday the ten years of the Constitution promulgated by President Hugo Chavez to end with social exclusion.
The popular mobilization summoned by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) is one of the multiple activities to recall December 15, 1999, when 71.8 percent of voters supported the Constitution in a referendum.
PSUV leader Dario Vivas informed that very early today, social sectors will be gathering in the vicinities of the National Assembly, where the central act will take place.
PSUV members, students, community councils, workers, and farmers will attend the mobilization, he told journalists.
Meanwhile, the president of the Bolivarian Federation of Students, Carlos Sierra, told Prensa Latina that thousands of university students will take part in the gathering.
"We will improve the occasion to give deputies a denunciation on paramilitarism encouraged by opposition members in some national universities," he added.
Apart from the mobilization, Parliament will also hold a special session today on the new Constitution.
The Constitution in force defends indigenous and environmental rights, restructuring of public powers, and the introduction of the revocation referendum.
