Venezuela says Cuba is a Resistance Icon

Cuba is a struggle and resistance icon, said on Friday the National Experimental Polytechnic University of the Venezuelan Armed Forces (Unefa) rector, major general Wilmer Barrientos.

"Cuba is a struggle and resistance icon. They always tell us many lies and still doing that, but you most go there", stressed Barrientos during the ceremony, in which the Cuban Five Prisoners in US received the Humberto Fernández Order.

He said he went to Cuba and shared with the people; "How much dignity you feel in that peace, how much conscience, how much love!".

He stated, Cuba does not give in to anything, despite the evil US Blockade.

"To understand the meaning of that, you most experience many things in life. Men can be in prison, but you can never snatch their ideas, dreams or struggles", he said.

René González, Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino and Fernando González remain imprisoned since September 12, 1998 because they infiltrated counter-revolutionary organizations in Florida to inform on terrorist acts against the island.

Decorations were given to Irma Sehwerer (mother) and Olga Salanueva (wife) of René, Magalys Llort (mother) and Rosaura Freijanes (wife) of Fernando; Mirta Rodríguez, Antonio's mother; Elizabeth Palmeiro, Ramón's wife, and Isabel Hernández, Gerardo's sister.

Present at the ceremony were the Cuban Ambassador to Venezuela, Rogelio Polanco, and a UNEFA worker and student delegation.
