Venezuela Ready for Presidential Elections
Venezuela´s electoral authorities and international observers in the country finalize details for the presidential elections on Sunday, April 14.
According to the National Electoral Council´s schedule, the first phase of the audit to the data transmission devices will be carried out on Saturday.
A new inspection of the telecommunications network will be staged a day after the voting, before carrying out the so-called post-electoral audit.
The president of the National Electoral Council (NEC), Tibisay Lucena, said on Friday that all guarantees planned for the development of the elections process have been fulfilled so far.
On the other hand, the special representative of the International Accompanying Mission of the Union of South American States (Unasur), Carlos Alvarez, said that he will hold working meetings today with delegates of the Organization of American States and Carter Center, who will also take part in the Venezuelan presidential elections.
According to Alvarez, about 40 Unasur mission delegates will move around 11 states of the country on Sunday to attend polling stations.
The Venezuelan acting president, Nicolas Maduro, confirmed on Friday the presence in the country of more than 170 international observers, and others from the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, the African Union, the South Common Market, and the Inter-American Union of Electoral Entities.
