Unesco Wishes Cuba a Happy 57th Anniversary of Revolution

The UN Organization for Education, Science and Culture wished Cuba today a happy 57th anniversary of its Revolution.
 
Eric Falt, Under Secretary General of Foreign Relations of Unesco addressed a letter to Dulce Buergo, Cuban representative before the UN body, conveying "the warmest wishes" to the authorities and people of Cuba on this occasion that constitutes a reason for pride and celebration.
 
The text also expressed the wish to continue strengthening the "close links" that have characterized the Unesco-Cuba relations and acknowledged the active role played by Cuba in the international cooperation in fields of competence of Unesco.
 
During year 2015, the bilateral working agenda was busy, with visits paid to Cuba by several high ranking Unesco officials, including Director General Irina Bokova.
 
The headquarters of Unesco in Paris was visited by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez and other Cuban ministers and officials linked to the UN body's mandate.
 
According to diplomatic sources, Cuba joined the world celebrations on occasion of the 70th anniversary of Unesco with a broad program of activities that concluded recently with the granting of the Carlos J. Finlay Unesco Prize for Microbiology to Japanese Professor Yoshihiro Kawaoka, who enjoys international renown as an expert on influenza virus and Ebola.
