Solidarity Representatives Demand in Venezuela Release of Cuban 5
Representatives of the Venezuela-Cuba Solidarity Movement demanded today the release of three prisoners of the island being held in U.S. jails since 1998.
On behalf of the organization, Yhonny Garcia told Prensa Latina that demand will be multiply harder on November 5, special day to denounce the biased trial and harsh sentences against the Five, as they are internationally known in campaigns for their release.
The speech by Venezuelan delegates at the Tenth International Colloquium for the Release of the Cuban Heroes and against Terrorism, held in Havana in September, will be the main issue of the new call.
For Garcia, after 16 years of unjust imprisonment, this case is an example that Washington violates its own laws and international law, as well as the human rights of the three Cubans who remain in prison and those of their relatives.
However, real terrorists such as Luis Posada Carriles are still free, he stated.
But also in this cause, as in the world condemnation to the economic, commercial and financial blockade supported by 188 nations at the United Nations on October 28, the Cuban people will be victorious, he added.
The Five were arrested on September 12, 1998, during an operation of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Miami, while monitoring plans organized by Cuban-origin organizations settled in Florida.
Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino and Antonio Guerrero remain in U.S. prison, while Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez were released from prison after completing their sentence and are with their relatives in Cuba.
