Solidarity with Cuba in Bolivia

The Bolivian eastern region, where the remains of mythical revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara were laid to rest for thirty years, is the scene of sessions of the 9th Congress of Solidarity with Cuba on Saturday.

A main issue of this meeting, attended by representatives of groups of solidarity with the Island in all Bolivia's nine departments, is the national campaign for the release of five anti-terrorist Cuban fighters held in US prisons for fighting terrorism.

A work session and the draft Final Declaration include demanding a fair trial and return to their homeland for Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labanino, Fernando Gonzalez and Antonio Guerrero.

Participants will also demand the end of the US economic, commercial, financial blockade imposed against the Island for nearly 50 years and review their support and intensification of Cuban cooperation programs with Bolivia in health and education under the motto "50th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution."

They will also pay tribute to Che Guevara with a vigil in poor la Higuera village, where he was assassinated in 1967.
