Solidarity Conference with Cuban Five Called for in Miami
Organizations that are part of the Marti Alliance in Miami called today for a conference to be held next Sunday in favor of the immediate release of the Cuban antiterrorist fighters still imprisoned in the United States.
Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero and Ramón Labañino must be returned to their country, say the groups that are part of the solidarity movement in favor of the Cuban Five, as they are known worldwide, along with René González and Fernando González, who already totally fulfilled their arbitrary sentences.
A press release of the Alliance noted that it will fight for justice "with these compatriots, whose mission was to prevent terrorist actions that were carried out against our families in Cuba and the rest of the Cuban people," actions that were planned and financed from Florida by extreme right-wing individuals and groups.
In the conference, to be held in a central location in Miami, "the persistent and serious problem will also be discussed that prevents the Cuban consulate in Washington from processing the payments for our travel documents to Cuba through U.S. banks."
As stated in the press release, many Cuban emigrants have begun to be affected in their attempts to visit their loved ones "and thousands more will be unable to do so in the immediate future due to the persistent refusal of the federal Treasury Department to resolve this serious matter."
The Marti Alliance is also asking the government of President Barack Obama to "promptly and definitively resolvethis situation, which is also a consequence of the inhuman blockade in force (for more than 50 years) against the Cuban people and against ourselves."
