S Africa Praises Cuba Contribution to Independence
South African Parliament President Max Vuyisile Sisulo, visiting the island on Tuesday, acknowledged the Cuban people's contribution to his country''s independence.
After paying tribute to African independence leaders at the Havana's Parque de los Proceres, Sisulo said that his presence here is an opportunity to express gratitude to the Caribbean people for that heroic gesture.
Sisulo, fulfilling an invitation by Cuba People's Power National Assembly President Ricardo Alarcon, laid a wreath on Monday at the monument erected to Oliver Tambo (1917-1993), a friend of the Cuba people and Revolution leader Fidel Castro.
Tambo, a South African anti-apartheid politician and main figure in the African National Congress, was a distinguished patriot and an example of internationalism. He fought for the freedom of South Africa and southern Africa, the legislator stated.
The South African parliament president is the son of Walter Sisulo, who along with Nelson Mandela, was imprisoned for fighting the apartheid's regime.
