Russia to Show its Best at Cuban Book Fair
More than 200 Russian intellectuals and artists, among them poet Evgueni Evtushenko, will participate in the 19th edition of Havana International Book Fair 2010, dedicated to that European country.
Russia, guest of honor at this event, will be represented by its classic and contemporary authors with 3,500 titles.
Russian Ambassador to Havana Mijail Kaminin said in a press conference this book fair will be an opportunity to ratify the good state of the relations between both nations, marking the 50th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations.
Russian Foreign Minister Serguei Lavrov will participate at the opening ceremony to be held on February 11.
Writer Eduard Uspenski and poet and translator Natalia Vanjanen are among some of the personalities invited.
Others like young writer Marina Lvovna, editor and novelist Serguei Lukianenko and poet and essayist Dmitri Bikov are also invited to participate.
Some 65 publishing houses from Russia propose re-editions of classics of poetry and childrenâ�Ös literature, among other proposals.
The program includes a round table on literature for young people and other on literature about the 19th and 20th century, to be the work of authors like Leon Tolstoi, Fiador Dostoievski, Mijail Bulgakov and Anton Chejov.
Besides literature, Russia brings a proposal of contemporary cinema, embracing classics based on literary works like "War and Peace", by Tolstoi, directed by Serguei Bondarchuck in 1968 and concerts with Los Kvuatro Band and jazz player Igor Butman.
