Russia: Cuban Residents Celebrate National Rebellion Day

The Association of Cuban Residents in Russia celebrated the Day of National Rebellion and supported the struggle against the U.S. blockade and the return to the island of the Cuban Five anti-terrorists unfairly held in US prisons.

The Assaults on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes garrisons by revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro were the deeds that marked the beginning of a process leading to a Revolution for a free and sovereign Cuba, according to a statement from that organization.

Those events gave way to a program which consolidates nowadays with new measures passed by the Cuban government to reaffirm these ideas and principles, the document from "Our big family in Russia" says.

Our people make changes in the economic field, in addition to improving the conditions on the island, strengthening its sovereignty and freedom, highlights the letter read out in a political-cultural meeting in this capital.

The association supported the struggle for the return home of the Cuban Five: Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labanino, Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez and Rene Gonzalez, this last one after serving an additional three years of supervised release punishment in the U.S.

The deputy Chief of the Cuban Embassy, Alejandro Simanca, stressed the significance of the recent work visit to this nation by President Raul Castro.

He also highlighted the speech of the Cuban Head of State in the Cuban Parliament, in which he reaffirmed the determination to fully normalize relations with the Cubans living abroad.
