Cuban antiterrorist fighter Rene Gonzalez said in the eastern city of Holguin that the dignity of his companions, unjustly condemned in the United States since 1998, stands them today above corrupt prosecutors and judges.

The immediate release of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez, and Antonio Guerrero, is one of the demands of the 9th International Colloquium for the Release of the Five and against Terrorism, taking place in that Cuban city, Granma newspaper reported.

These men, known as the Cuban Five, were condemned by U.S. courts to long prison sentences, because of their work in preventing terrorist activities against Cuba, planned by violent groups based in the United States.

Rene Gonzalez is now in the island after completing his sentence in prison and renouncing his U.S. citizenship.

Several participants in this event, to be run until Saturday, Nov. 16, have met about ten years in Holguin to raise their voices in favor of the release of these Cubans.

Participants in this event will visit today some municipalities in Holguin, to learn more about the challenges faced by the Cubans because of the U.S. hostility toward the island for more than 50 years.
