Piedad Cordoba: Fidel Was A Key Ally for Peace in Colombia

Former congresswoman Piedad Cordoba asserted today that the historic leader of the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro, was a key ally for peace in Colombia, after underlining the island''s progresses in health and education.

'He always listened and supported initiatives (...) he was a key ally of peace,' insisted the lawyer and defender of human rights on her Twitter account.

'If we talk about Cuba, let's talk about facts !!! This is Fidel's Cuba: World example in health, sport, education!! And with more than 50 years of blockade,' added Cordoba.

Referring to some of the achievements of the Caribbean country, the spokeswoman for the Patriotic March platform recalled that it was recognized by the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) as the only Latin American country without child malnutrition and mortality.

'About 200 million children sleep in the street world-wide, none in Cuba; 130,000 doctors have graduated in the country since 1961, it is the first nation to eliminate mother-to-child HIV transmission,' she said.

Following the death of Fidel Castro last Friday, Córdoba expressed her sorrow and highlighted the contribution of the legendary revolutionary to the search for peace in Colombia.

'Commander Fidel Castro !! You did not only write history !! You are history!!!,' said the outstanding left-wing leader.
