Some 20789 people in Pinar del Rio have been undergone to surgery at the Ophthalmologic Center of Abel Santamaria Hospital, as part of the Operation Miracle in Pinar del Rio.

This center counts on the material and the qualified specialists to perform advanced studies of nervous function, retina and optical nerves and today their main challenge is the introduction of intrastromal ring implants for the treatment of patients with cornea conditions.

According to doctor Rolando Iviricu Tielves, chief of the Ophthalmologic Center, the application of new surgical techniques like faco-emulsification in patients with cataracts and exeresis with conjunctival autograft in the cases of fleshiness, make possible to heal the sight conditions.

These are minimum access techniques and allow a shorter stay of the patients in the hospital, added doctor Rolando Iviricu.
