Partial Victory in Cuban Five Case
A Peruvian solidarity organization said it was a victory of international public opinion and solidarity that Cuban antiterrorist hero Gerardo Hernandez was no longer in the "hole" in a U.S. prison.
A statement issued by the the Peruvian Committee in Solidarity with the Cuban Five denounced the confinement of Hernandez "in solidarity in the federal prison of Victorville," as an attack on human rights. His return to his regular cell was widely reported.
"This is a partial triumph; a victory of international public opinion and solidarity. But also a challenge to continue until freedom is achieved for the five prisoners of the empire," indicated the statement.
The five Cuban antiterrorists unjustly locked up in U.S. prisons for the last 12 years are known internationally as the Cuban Five.
Before their arrests in 1998, the five men were gathering public information in the United States about plans against their country by terrorists based in Florida.
