Parlatino-Venezuela Supports Resolution Against Blockade of Cuba
The Latin American Parliament (Parlatino), Venezuela group, approved a resolution supporting the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) that demands the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United Status on Cuba.
The president of the organization, Rodrigo Cabezas, stressed his satisfaction with the result of the UN vote in favor of Resolution A6712, where 188 nations called for an end to this genocidal policy imposed by the U.S. government against Cuba for more than five decades.
He also said that the overwhelming majority of Assembly members demanded that the Obama administration suspend the measures in force in its foreign policy toward the Cuban nation.
These, he said, impact negatively on Cuba, both economically, financially and in its rights to fully develop its population, ensure sustainability and improve the quality of life of its inhabitants.
Parlatino-Venezuela agreed to back the condemnation position against blockade assumed by the Community of Latina American and Caribbean States (CELAC), the Southern Common Market and the Caribbean Community.
In another context, parliamentarians agreed to greet Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela for admission to the Human Rights Council of the UN for the period 2013-2015.
Cabezas noted that the selection of Venezuela as member of the Council is a foreign policy achievement of President Hugo Chavez.
They also recognized the members of the international body that put their trust in those three Latin American countries to undertake the work of defending human rights.
