Panama: Alarcón Explains Economic Changes and Situation of the Five
The president of Cuba's National Assembly, Ricardo Alarcon, explained in detail the economic changes taking place in his country and the situation of the Cuban Five unjustly imprisoned in the United States.
With an impressive crowd in the Embassy of Venezuela in Panama, Alarcon said that the main problem in Cuba is the U.S. economic war that has continued, and even, in some aspects, has worsened under Barack Obama's administration.
He explained the process to update Cuba's economic model as changes to reduce bureaucracy, reduce the role of the State; empower companies and give more space to private activities, not to privatize or abandon socialism, but to save it with the participation of the people.
People attending the conference were interested in the situation of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, internationally known as The Cuban Five.
After describing the irregularities and illegalities of the prosecutions in Miami, Alarcon went into detail about the case of Rene, who served his sentence and now is subjected to three years of supervised freedom, and he cannot return to his country to join his family.
He explained in detail the current situation of the other four, and the different aspects of their collateral or extraordinary appeals and habeas corpus.
