Non Aligned Countries Reject Blockade of Cuba and Coup in Honduras

The Non Aligned Movement (NAM) reiterated on Sunday its rejection of coercive extraterritorial and unilateral measures such as Washington’s almost-50-year-old economic, financial and trade blockade of Cuba.

According to Granma newspaper, the accord was reached during a meeting of NAM high-level officials that began on Saturday at the Sharm El-Sheikh resort in Egypt as part of the 15th NAM Summit that continues there on Monday.

The meeting of NAM heads of state and government is scheduled for next Wednesday and Thursday at the Maritim Jolie Ville Convention Center, where Cuba will formally transfer the pro-tempore chairmanship of the organization to Egypt.

The Cuban delegation to the summit is headed by President Raul Castro, who is currently on an official visit to Algeria. The delegation is also comprised of Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdes Menendez and Army Corps General Leopoldo Cintra Frias, both members of the Politburo of the Cuban Communist Party, as well as Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, vice-president of the Cuban Council of Ministers.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, who is already in Egypt taking part in the ministerial segment of the event, is also part of the Cuban delegation.

The NAM high-level officials agreed to condemn the coup d’état staged in Honduras against President Manuel Zelaya and not to recognize any other government than the legitimate and constitutional administration of Zelaya.

The NAM representatives condemned the coup and the de facto government’s refusal to comply with an international call to reinstate the constitutional and democratic order in Honduras.
