Nicaraguans to Celebrate Birthdays of Fidel Castro and Tomas Borge

Nicaraguan youths will hold several events to celebrate the 89th birthday of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and the 85th birthday of FSLN founder Tomas Borge on August 13.

According to the program prepared by the Sandinista Youth and published today on local media, the poetry recital "With Love for Tomas" will be held next Tuesday to pay tribute to the founder of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), who died in 2012.

Other initiatives include the Digital Design Expo #ConFidelyTomas, which will take place on Wednesday with participation of amateurs and graphic design students from the National Engineering University.

On Thursday, the Sandinista Youth, students of academic excellence and children with disabilities will lay wreaths at Borge's mausoleum, starting early in the morning.

Through social networks, the Virtual Day #ConFidelyTomás will be launched, and in the afternoon, a students' assembly will be held to highlight Borge's life and work as an example to students.

Also on Thursday, the Leonel Rugama Movement will organize a concert of Nicaraguan musical bands and singer songwriters at Plaza Cuba.

A bloggers' workshop called "Un Grano de Maíz" (A Kernel of Corn) on media and digital writing, a gastronomic fair with Cuban food and a salsa music festival are among the events to be held on Friday.

The departments of Leon and Matagalpa will also organize initiatives to celebrate the two leaders' birthdays.
