Mexican Daily Dedicates Supplement to Fidel and Cuban Revolution

The cultural supplement of the Mexican daily La Jornada is dedicated today to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro (1926-2016), as well as Cuba''s achievements in arts and education.
 
On the front page, a full-color photo shows the Commander-in-Chief sharing with Cuban children and the headline 'Cuba 1959-2016: Art, Culture and Revolution'.
 
In 'Cuba: a Revolution Turned into Culture', essayist Julio César García (Mexico, 1968) states, 'Since its triumph, the Cuban Revolution established the bases of a cultural policy'.
 
He mentions, among others, Casa de las Américas, the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEC) and the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) as the main cultural institutions.
 
'The virus of the Desire to Know: Fidel Castro and Education in Cuba' is another of headline in the supplement that, like the previous one, covers two pages.
 
The article is complemented by several photos, one of which shows Fidel visiting a school, where children are using computers.
 
Two other pages are dedicated to 'Music in Cuba: A Constant Revolution'.
 
'The syncretism of Cuban music includes son, montuno, chachacha, guajira, mambo, rumba, and it may be expressed in a bolero of only three minutes,' according to the supplement.
 
Meanwhile, three pages are dedicated to 'Artistic Training in Cuba since the Revolution'.
 
The back cover is dedicated to the essay 'Memories, Machetes, Ice Cream and Vampires: The Cuban Cinema of the Past Few Decades'.
