More than a hundred organizations in solidarity with Cuba will hold a large march today in New York to demand an end to the economic, financial and commercial blockade maintained by the United States against the island.
 
The demonstration will take place from the iconic Times Square building to the United Nations headquarters, as a prelude to the vote on the resolution in the UN General Assembly on the need to end the unilateral siege by Washington, to be held on November 2 and 3.
 
"This will be the 30th consecutive vote in which the world community will once again strongly condemn the cruel and unjust U.S. blockade against Cuba," said Ike Nahem, one of the main organizers of the rally.
 
Cuban-American activist Carlos Lazo, leader of the Bridges of Love Movement, said that once again the majority of the countries of the world will ask the United Nations to put an end to this unilateral siege that has lasted more than six decades.
 
In addition to Puentes de Amor, associations such as Code Pink and The People's Forum, among others, will participate in the event, as well as representatives of the Cuban emigrant community and North Americans, said Lazo.
 
More than 30 actions are taking place this week in North America to condemn Washington's punitive policy, according to a communiqué from a coalition of more than 100 organizations in solidarity with the island, united under the slogan "UN Vote 4 Cuba".
 
One of the activities was held in the city of Hartford, capital of the state of Connecticut, where members of movements such as Nemo (NoEmbargoCuba), the Greater Hartford Peace Council and the Connecticut Peace and Solidarity Coalition held a demonstration to call for the lifting of such punitive policy.
 
Likewise, the organization Code Pink launched a new petition asking U.S. President Joe Biden and U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, to move towards the normalization of relations with the Antillean nation.
 
When presenting the report on the impact of the siege on the island, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez recently denounced that the losses amounted to three billion 806 million dollars between August 2021 and February 2022.
 
The existence of the blockade is an undeniable reality, no one could seriously claim that it does not exist or that it is a mere pretext, it is tangible and it reaches and damages every family in the Caribbean country, Cubans living in the United States, American citizens and companies all over the planet, he said.
