The children''s theater company La Colmenita will return to Cuba after having concluded its successful tour to the Mexican state of Quintana Roo with their musical play inspired by a tale written by Jose Marti.
In statements to Prensa Latina by email, its director, Carlos Alberto Cremata, said as soon they arrive in Havana, the company will immediately join the cultural revival in the Cuban eastern region, damaged by Hurricane Sandy.
During their presentations in that Mexican territory in Yucatan Peninsula, the company performed together with well-known artists from the area like the Brazilian musician and songwriter, Denise de Kalafe and the Cuban dance group Havana Compas Dance.
These UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors were invited to the Caribbean Cultural Festival 2012, and performed in Chetumal, Jose Morelos, Bacalar and Islas Mujeres as part of a tour that brought praise from the Cultura y Educación (Culture and Education) magazine in Cancun.
At the end of the performances, Quintana Roo's First Lady, Mariana Zorrilla de Borjes said she was very impressed, at the same time expressing the government's interest in founding similar Colmenitas (little beehives) in this part of the Aztec nation.
Since November 8, Mexican media have reported on the favorable welcome given to the Colmenita by the children and the population of the towns and municipalities in Quintana Roo, including Cancun. The Cuban consul, Roberto Hernandez de Alba announced that they may return next year.
Cremata also said La Colmenita's performance included the interpretation of Cuban traditional ballads.
