Japan-Cuba Friendship Parlm''t League Holds First 2014 Meeting

The president of Japan-Cuba Friendship Parliamentary League, Keiji Furuya, shared impressions and results of his recent working visit to this Caribbean nation, during the first meeting of this entity in 2014.
Furuya, who is the Minister for Disaster Management and National Recovery, and also the president of the National Commission of Public Security in the cabinet of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, informed his colleagues about the intensive program developed in Havana.

A representation from the League's legislators of the main parties of the country, among them the ruling Democratic Liberal Party, the Democratic Party of Japan, the New Komeito Party, and the Party for Everyone, among others, attended the meeting.

The Japanese minister described of great privilege to have been received during his visit to Cuba in January by President Raul Castro and the historic leader of the revolution, Fidel Castro, of whom he highlighted his simplicity and modesty.

He praised the Cuban Civil Defense system to face natural disasters and its effectiveness to avoid human losses, while said he has verified its high level at the University of Sports Sciences, which has enabled the results Cuba has reached in this sector.

The meeting, to which Cuban ambassador attended as a guest, debated the activities to develop in cultural, historic, economic, trade and sports spheres, on occasion to commemorate this year the 400th anniversary of the arrival to Cuba of the first Japanese man, Samurai Hasekura Tsunenaga.
