Int’l Sports Convention Kicks Off in Havana

The Fourth International Convention of Spots and Physical Activity (AFIDE 2011) began on Tuesday at Havana’s Convention Center with the participation of more than 400 delegates from 29 countries.

The president of the event’s organizing committee, Luis del Toro Reyes, said that nearly 256 papers will be presented, including 98 by foreign delegates from Mexico, Iraq, Ecuador, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Egypt, Spain, Kazakhstan, and Venezuela, among other nations. 

He noted that nine international workshops and eleven special events will take place during the convention that runs through December 8. Also scheduled are key addresses and lectures by the Deputy Sports Ministers from Cuba and Venezuela, and by personalities linked to sports medicine. 

This year, the event is dedicated to Venezuela, the largest foreign delegation with 150 members. 

AFIDE, born in 2005, aims at facilitating the exchange, promotion and spreading of experiences and results of studies on sciences in the field of sports and physical activity.
