International Solidarity with Cuba Increases
Cuba has received to date goods and cash for some 40 million dollars as international solidarity donations for the recovery works after the passing of three major hurricanes through the Caribbean nation.
Orlando Requeijo, Cuba’s Foreign Investment and Economic Collaboration (MINVEC) deputy Minister, in statements to ACN news agency labelled as edifying to see that in many places around the world the feelings of solidarity are growing like those Cuba has put into practice from the very beginning of the Revolution.
Requeijo pointed out that the Cubans, their efforts and dedication, depend in the first place on recovering from the damage caused the hurricanes, but that it was encouraging to see the solidarity seeds germinating in a world of selfishness, which needs these highly human demonstrations.
The donations are being assigned to rebuilding houses, schools, the restoring of the electrical grid and sewer systems and they come from rich and poor countries alike, from individuals and even from children, an unheard-of situation, said Requeijo.
Along with the material and financial donations Cuba has received help from Venezuelan construction brigades to rebuild schools, power line orkers from St Vincent and Grenada, US volunteers and the offers from the Colombian, Mexican and Dominican people.
