International Colloquium in Favor of the Cuban Five Begins Today

The 4th International Colloquium for the Release of the Five Cuban political prisoners incarcerated in the United States begins on Friday in the eastern province of Holguin, 743 kilometers East of Havana.

Journalists, political activists, lawyers, writers and friends of Cuba are among more than 100 delegates from nearly 20 countries from the Americas, Europe and Africa attending the event.

The meeting, held under the auspices of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP), will also be attended by relatives of Ramon Labañino, Gerardo Hernandez, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Rene Gonzalez – internationally known as the Cuban Five-, who will update participants about the case and the repeated US’s denial of visas to visit their loved ones in prison.

The program of the event also includes an interactive internet forum to analyze the current situation of the case. A panel of specialists will answer questions from internet surfers.

American civil rights activist Angela Davis is expected to take part in the colloquium that concludes on Saturday.

Last September 12th marked the tenth anniversary of the Cuban Five’s imprisonment for infiltrating anti-Cuba extremist organizations in South Florida that were planning and carrying out terrorist actions against Cuba.
