Gran Teatro de La Habana Reopens with Tribute to Cuban Revolution
With the gala performance "Triptico Clasico", The National Ballet of Cuba will celebrate today the anniversary 57th of the triumph of the Revolution and the reopening of the Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso.
The first act of Giselle, the second act of The Lake of Swans and the third act of Coppelia are part of the program offered by the company, founded in Cuba by prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso along with brothers Fernando and Alberto Alonso in 1948.
Cuban dancers Anette Delgado, Dani Hernandez, Sadaise Arencibia, Alfredo Ibañez, Viengsay Valdes and Víctor Estévez will be the main dancers of the performance, which will be repeated next Sunday.
Following three years of repairs, the theater reopens today with the gala performance accompanied by this siteâ�Ös orchestra directed by maestro Giovanny Duarte.
The theater, opened on April 15, 1838 as Gran Teatro de Tacon Este, is one of the oldest theaters in Latin America and since its opening has hosted the performances of prestigious artists in the world as Ana Pavlova and singer Enrico Caruso.
Also Cuban artists Ignacio Cervantes, Jose White, Ernesto Lecuona, Alicia Alonso and Rita Montaner performed in the majestic building of eclectic style.
