The Good Example Set by the Cuban Medical Brigade

Paraguayan Vice President Juan Afara paid a visit of inspection to a group of the Cuban medical brigade working at the Maria Auxiliadora District, some three hundred miles from Asunción, the Paraguayan capital.

The Cuban ophthalmologists have attended so far this year 2348 patients, and performed 1371 operations to cure cataracts and 895 to remove pterigium.

As part of the world-wide Operation Milagro, Spanish word for Miracle, the Cuban physicians have helped return or substantially improve vision to thousands of Paraguayan patients.

Hundreds of thousands of Latin American patients, especially those who lack medical attention or are too poor to pay for it have benefited by this medical program supported in Latin America and many other countries in the world by Cuban physicians. Medical attention and in many cases even the medicines are absolutely free of charge.

Accompanied by the Public Health Minister Antonio Barrios, the Paraguayan vice president instructed Government Officials to increase attention and support to the dedicated job being conducted by the Cuban physicians.

The vice president of Paraguay said that the work being conducted by the Cuban physicians in his country and its splendid results deserve all the support needed by that effort and thanked the Government and people of Cuba.
