Francophone Week in Cuba

A concert by a Cuban group of ancient music Ars Longa with pieces from the XVI and XVII centuries will open on Sunday the Francophone Week, dedicated to the Caribbean island of Haiti.

The program covers various proposals for visual arts, music, theater, literature and film.

During the first day the French film "Home, our planet" by Yann Arthus-Bertrand and Haitian Jacques Roumain will be on screen, together with "Passion for a country" by Arnold Antonin among more than 10 films in the film exhibition.

Other attractions for the coming days include master class workshops by Belgian cartoonist Etiene Schreder and the exhibition of his Swiss colleague Tom Tirabosco in "The showcase of Wallonia" in Old Havana.

In the same place, children from classroom-museum project will compete in "Create your own comic", inspirated in the manufacture of chocolate, a tradition in Francophone communities of Belgium and Switzerland.

About six exhibitions have been scheduled for the the visual arts program. They include "Cuban Portraits" by French photographer Pierre Lobstein and "Outskirts, Architecture and Charm" with 230 photos of buildings of the twentieth century.

Other proposal will be the tasting of culinary specialities of the nations members of the francophone community, electro acoustic music concerts and a concert-tribute to Polish composer Frederick Chopin on the bicentennial of his birthday. The Francophone Week aims to promote the different artistic expressions and an approach to cultural diversity of nations that comprise it.
