Film on Cuban 5 to Be Screened in Flanders Festival
The film "Las esposas cubanas" (The Cuban Wives), which deals with the case of five antiterrorist fighters convicted in the United States, will be screened in Belgium on November 24 during the 4th Latin American Film Festival of Flanders.
The film is an Italian-Cuban co-production, directed by Alberto Antonio Dandolo, and analyzes the injustices committed against Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez and Gerardo Hernandez, detained for defending their people from terrorist attacks.
The book contains testimonies of the wives of the Cuban Five, as they are known internationally, who have the most human side of their love stories, resistance, and struggle for their release and return to his people and their families.
The film also collects statements from many figures associated with the defense of the Cuban Five, including Wayne Smith, former head of the U.S. Interest Section in Havana, and American activist Gloria la Riva.
Lawyer Jose Pertierra and Cuba's Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon explained in detail in the film some details of the trial held in Miami and arbitrariness committed throughout more than a decade.
The film competes in Flanders in the sci fi documentary category for the prize "El Caminante", a bronze "traveller" statue sculpted by Flemish activist-artist Fabio Wuytack.
