Fidel Castro Meets WHO Director
Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro met with World Health Organization (WHO) Di9rector General Margaret Chan, who was accompanied by Mirta Roses, director of the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), Granma newspaper reported Wednesday.
Both international health authorities exchanged extensively with Cuban professionals of the sector, and visited several scientific and welfare institutions.
In her meeting with Fidel Castro, Chang expressed admiration for the Cuban health system, its work fighting the A(H1N1) flu pandemic, and the preventive measures the country has adopted.
They analyzed different issues in the meeting, as a study of disabilities that is currently carried out in several Latin American countries.
The WHO director general saw with pleasure a video about the Manuela Espejo Mission, implemented in Ecuador, and praised Cuba's cooperation with other regional nations.
Fidel Castro and Chang also talked about climate change and environment, incidence in health and dangers to human existence.
The Revolution leader expressed gratitude for Chang's visit to Cuba and her examples of support, the daily said.
UNAIDS Coordinator of WHO/PAHO in Cuba Dr. Lea Guido, WHO Director General Adviser Fu Cong, and Cuban Health Minister Jose Ramon Balaguer, Cuban Central Committee Ideological Department Chief Rolando Alfonso Borges, Havana City Historian Eusebio Leal, Deputy Health Minister Marcia Cobas, and La Castellana Psycho-Pedagogical Medical Center Director Emelia Icart also attended the meeting.
