FAO Extols Cuban Food Security Achievements
The UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) extolled Cuba's work in food security and the improvements in its population´s nutritional levels.
FAO representative in Cuba, Marcio Porto, said the Island supports and makes progress in the four priority areas for the region: food and nutritional security, climate change and environmental sustainability, family agriculture and agricultural health and food harmlessness.
In his speech during a food chain risk-assessment workshop in this capital, Porto said those issues are given special attention by the Cuban government, which is reinforcing the mechanisms to prevent any harm in food production.
He said FAO is very happy that the issue of food harmlessness is included in the Guidelines of the Economic and Social Policy of the Communist Party of Cuba as a permanent concern and activity.
He extolled the fact that food quality and good practices applied to the food chain are part of nationwide debate and work, and expressed the will that knowledge and tools acquired in this workshop reach food consumers and producers.
