End of US Blockade against Cuba Demanded in Jamaica
Friends of Cuba in Jamaica have demanded in Kingston the end of the economic, financial and commercial blockade by the U.S.A against Cuba.
During a solidarity meeting several lecturers condemned that policy and demanded its immediate elimination.
Yuri Gala, Cuban ambassador to Jamaica, pronounced the closing speech. He mentioned the most recent report of his country on that issue and denounced the damages it has brought to the island, which exceed 154 billion dollars.
Gala recalled that next October 26 the Cuban Resolution will be presented to the UN General Assembly for the 19th year in a row.
The ceremony, organized by the Jamaica Cuba Friendship Association, served as the culmination of the fifth international campaign for the release of the Cuban Five imprisoned in the U.S. since 1998.
That ceremony also commemorated the beginning of the Independence War in 1868 and the deaths of Ernesto Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos.
