Ecuador Celebrates Fidel Castro´s 90th Birthday
People from several Latin American countries met on Friday in Ecuador at a political-cultural event to celebrate the 90th birthday of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.
Guitar in hand, Bolivian Ambassador to Ecuador Juan Enrique Jurado livened up the beginning of the meeting with the song "La Patria" (The Homeland), which reflects the feeling for the homeland and it is considered as an anthem in his country.
"La Muralla", "Guantanamera", "Hasta Siempre Comandante Che Guevara", "Latinoamérica" and "Alerta que Camina la Espada de Bolívar por America Latina" were sung by a choir of artists and the audience at the event, held at the Chapel of Humanity.
The venue was not a casual choice, several guests attending the event recalled that the Cuban revolutionary leader inaugurated this art gallery in Quito in 2002. It was founded by his friend, the Ecuadorian painter Oswaldo Guayasamin.
The president of the National Coordinating Committee of Friendship and Solidarity with Cuba, Maria Augusta Calle, stressed the value of the Cuban leader not only for the liberation of Cuba but also for Our Americas.
Cuban Doctor Yusimi Barrios explained that the presence here of a medical brigade from her country responds to Fidel's interests in providing solidarity aid to other peoples.
Cuban Ambassador to Ecuador Rafael Dausa said that the army in white coats, as the medical brigade is respectfully called, is an idea of Fidel, his people and the Revolution. They were additionally sent from his country when Ecuador was hit by a strong earthquake in April.
Thank you for the moral, political and historic guide that he is still offering us, the diplomat said.
