Diaz-Canel: Cuba resists, defeats aggressions and terrorism

Cuba resists the US aggressions, including State terrorism, announced President Miguel Diaz-Canel today, at the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the explosion of the French steamer La Coubre.

Cuba does not forget one of the saddest traces of State terrorism. These aggressions began as soon as the Revolution triumphed. They have been resisted and defeated, the president wrote in his Twitter account.

He thus referred to the terrorist attack on La Coubre, where two explosions killed 101 and injured 400 Cubans, Spaniards and Frenchmen in Havana's port on March 4, 1960.

The event is considered one of the first warmongering actions of the United States against the emerging Cuban Revolution.

The attack had a genocidal premeditation, as the second explosion occurred when the rescue work of the victims caused by the first blast was taking place.

The day after the incident, a massive funeral gathered the Havana residents near the Colon Cemetery to say goodbye to the victims.

In front of the crowd, the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, would bequeath the slogan of 'Homeland or Death', while the firm face of Ernesto Che Guevara would be immortalized by photographer Alberto Korda to become a symbol of resistance.

Data revealed by Fidel Castro himself proved the complicity of United States government agencies in that terrorist action, which was aimed at boycotting the supply of weapons and ammunition to Cuba and thus leaving the country defenseless in the face of growing hostility from Washington authorities.
