Cubans Pay Tribute to Hugo Chavez
Miguel Diaz Canel, first vice president of the Council of States and Ministers of Cuba, led today the island''s tribute to late President Hugo Chavez.
Cuban National Peoples' Power Assembly (Parliament) President Esteban Lazo, vice presidents of the Council of State, senior officers of the armed forces, among other Cuban leaders, participated in the tribute to the Bolivarian leader.
A guard of honor escorted a picture of Chavez smiling, in front of which thousands of Cubans marched this morning in the Jose Marti Memorial Monument at the historic Revolution Square.
The 15 Cuban provinces began today at 08:00 local time a tribute to late Venezuelan president.
According to authorities, the Cubans will offer their respect and affection for Chavez until 20:00 local time.
Since early today, thousands of people gathered around the facilities chosen for the tribute.
The Cuban government decreed official and national mourning to pay tribute, to whom it described as a military patriot to the service of Venezuela and the Greater Homeland.
The 21-gun salute from the San Carlos de La Cabana Fortress in Havana is scheduled for tomorrow.
