Cuban Youth Demonstrate for a Peaceful World

Hundreds of young people and students from a variety of educational centers marched here yesterday down one of the main streets of this city calling for world peace and opposing terrorism.

Through banners, posters, songs and slogans, they called once more for the release of Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernandez and Ramon Labañino, three of the Cuban men who fought terrorism and remain imprisoned in US jails.

They, along with Fernando and Rene Gonzalez, who have returned to Cuba after serving their full sentences, are part of the Cuban Five, as they are known worldwide through the international campaign for their release.

The Cuban Five were arrested in 1998 and given harsh sentences for having monitored the terrorist groups operating from Miami who were carrying out violent actions against Cuba.

The demonstrators also protested the US economic, trade and financial blockade against Cuba, in place for more than 50 years, as well as the war that has undermined peace in many parts of the world.
