Cuban Vice President Attends Independence Celebrations in Angola

Cuban Council of State vice president, Salvador Valdes Mesa, arrived in Angola to participate in the celebration on occasion of the 40th anniversary of the independence of the African country.
 
According to the official agenda, Valdes Mesa will be received today by Angolas National Assembly President, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, and then will attend the opening of the new premises of the Angolan Parliament.
 
With influences in the distribution and architectural components of the U.S. Capitol, the construction of the building had a public investment of more than $185 million USD.
 
The headquarter of the Legislative Power consists of three buildings and two parking lots.
 
Such area covers 35,867 square meters of offices, 11,341 of area for (plenary) meetings, and 3,191 for services.
 
The main work has six floors.
 
Upon his arrival at the capital's "4 de Febrero" international airport, Valdes Mesa was received by Angolan Agriculture Minister, Pedro Canga, Cuban ambassador, Gisela Garcia, and officials from the Havana diplomatic mission in Luanda.
 
During the dialogue with Canga, the islands vice president conveyed a greeting by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and President, Raul Castro, to the Angolan government and people for the 40th anniversary of the national liberation.
 
The Cuban delegation to the festivities is also comprised of Council of Ministers vice president, Division General Antonio Enrique Lusson; Brigadier General (r) Rafael Moracen; Deputy Foreign Minister, Ana Teresita Gonzalez; and ambassador Garcia.
 
On November 11, 1975, the first president of Angola, Agostinho Neto, proclaimed the national independence at the capitals May 1st Square (now Independence Square).
