Cuban Presence in Construction Sector in South Africa

Cuba is cooperating in South Africa in the construction sector for several years with a supportive and mutually beneficial balance, which is added to the outstanding medical presence in this nation.

Raul Fortun Camacho, national coordinator of programs of cooperation between the UNECA, the Ministry of Construction of Cuba and the South African government, said that there are bilateral agreements in this field since 2004.

In interview with Prensa Latina, engineer Fortun Camacho said the cooperation emerged from the Convention between Cuba and South Africa in 2002, which in case of the UNECA (Union of Caribbean Construction Companies), took shape in 2004.

It was when the country began the quality control work, counseling and transmission of skills, and experiences with the Department of Human Settlements (ministry) for lifting homes, he said.

They work in difficult areas in the provinces of Western Cape, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Free State, in building houses for poor people, very needed to which the South African administration offers help, Fortun Camacho said.
