Cuban Municipal Assemblies Set Up Today
The 169 Peoples' Power Municipal Assemblies, corresponding to the 14th Legislature, are being set up in Cuba on Wednesday.
This is the final step of a process, in which 15,093 delegates were elected at that level, convened by the Council of State early January.
Led by each Municipal Electoral Commission's top authority, those elected delegates in the April and May elections will take up their posts in solemn sessions.
According to the current Electoral Law, delegates in those meetings will elect president and vice president of the municipal assembly for a new two and a half year mandate, as of proposals presented by the candidature commissions.
As the Constitution stipulates, the municipal assemblies are appointed as the higher authority for the exercise of their mandate and functions in their respective demarcations.
