Cuban, Guatemalan Artists Meet
The 7th conference of Guatemalan and Cuban artists will open on Wednesday at the National Culture Palace and is dedicated this time to youth and literature.
Miguel Barnet, president of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), as a guest of honor, is leading a delegation that arrived from Havana on Tuesday for the event, to run until August 31.
Wednesday's event will conclude with a cultural activity and the performance of the Guatemalan Youth Symphony Orchestra, the chorus of the National Conservatory of Music, and Cuban residents in Guatemala, said conference organizer Lazaro Valdespino.
The most important activity will take place on Thursday in the same venue, when Barnet participates in the traditional ceremony of the white rose, a symbol of peace. The ceremony is reserved for distinguished national and international figures.
Barnet was accompanied by Rosalia Arnaez, president of UNEAC Association of Audio-visual Media and Radio, and poet Lazaro Castillo, president of the Hermanos Saiz Cultural Association for young Cuban writers, artists, researchers and cultural promoters.
