Cuban First VP Says Working and Producing More is a Must

Cuba’s First Vice-president José Ramón Machado Ventura, said that to work more and produce more, with increasing rationality, is a must.

"That’s the golden formula to prosper, amid the world crisis", said Machado Ventura during a tour of several work places of the central province of Matanzas, where he spoke with workers, leaders and the people, the Granma newspaper reports.

At La Marina neighborhood, the First VP praised the comprehensive restoration of this place, once unhealthy, and held exchanges with some of its neighbours and with Adriana Rodríguez, the president of the Matanzas East Popular Council, pertaining to La Marina.

Accompanied by the first secretary of the Communist Party in this province, Pedro Betancourt, the Cuban leader also visited two enterprises -the Reparadora Granma and the Conformación Matanzas Noel Fernández, the latter commercializing fire extinguishers, gas cylinders and other products.

Machado Ventura also dialogued with technicians and specialists in charge of the drilling of the Varadero 1000 oil well, a project assumed by Cuban personnel with good production perspectives.

Likewise, he spoke with workers from the Mario Muñoz Monroy Hospital in Colón, the first one built by the Revolution.

The First VP insisted on the principle that it’s essential to get the most out of the land, to make it produce as much as possible, an idea reiterated at the Máximo Gómez and Vladimir Ilich Lenin enterprises, producers of various crops.

As an example of the feasibility of this task, he praised the dedication of farmer Ernesto Jiménez from the Ramón Rodríguez Milián Cooperative of Credits and Services in the municipality of Perico, who obtains high agricultural productivity in some 40 hectares of land.

The First Vice-president toured areas of the San José de Marcos facilities for protected crops in Jagüey Grande, where some 80 tons of tomato per hectare are collected as an average.

Finally, he visited the former Iluminado Rodríguez boarding school, which over the last four years has been used as the main warehouse of the Citrus Enterprise, with noticeable advantages for this entity.
