Cuban Culture, Food Ministers Inform Parliament

Cuban Ministers Abel Prieto (Culture) and Maria del Carmen Concepción (Food Industry) are expected to inform on Saturday the National Assembly of the People''s Power (Parliament) on the work carried out by their portfolios in 2009.

The meeting today precedes the start on Sunday of the Ordinary Period of Sessions of Parliament, which is expected to discuss an agenda including the analysis of the execution of the National Budget in this year.

Also according to the agenda, legislators are expected to discuss tomorrow the general guidelines of the Economic Plan for 2010.

On Friday, deputies who are members of the 91 Parliamentary Groups of Solidarity with other legislative bodies worldwide exchanged views on the work carried out through the year and agreed on main activities to implement in 2010.

They also approved a declaration supporting Sahrawi human rights activist Aminatu Haidar, who after 32 days on a hunger strike in a Spanish airport achieved the recognition of her right to return to his homeland, from where she had been expelled by Morocco.

President of the International Relations Committee of the Assembly Ramon Perez Ferro urged legislators to intensify the struggle for the release of The Five anti-terrorist Cuban fighters (Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Rene Gonzalez, Fernando Gonzalez and Antonio Guerrero) unjustly held in US prisons.
