Cuban Communist Party Sends Message to French Communists
The Cuban Communist Party (PCC) sent a fraternal greeting to the French Communists on its 36th Congress, and thanked them for their solidarity towards the Revolution.
The PCC stressed the importance of unity, of open discussions and frank dialogue in the construction of a better world for everyone.
The text also recognized the support of the struggle for the release of the five anti-terrorism Cuban fighters unjustly held in the United States.
Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Gerardo Hernandez and Rene Gonzalez were arrested on September 12, 1998, after alerting their country regarding terrorist actions developed by anti-Cuban extremist groups based in the U.S. city of Miami.
Four of those fighters still remain in prison, while Rene Gonzalez completed his prison term on October 7, 2011 after 13 years of incarceration. But he has not been allowed to return home to be with his relatives, because he is obliged to stay three years more in U.S. territory under supervised release.
Noel Carrillo, European coordinator of the International Relations Department at the PCC Central Committee, said that both parties have maintained relations for many years and are currently working to develop ties.
In statements to Prensa Latina, the Communist leader stated that the fact that Cuba currently holds the pro tempore presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) is a reflection of the new reality of the continent.
More than 100 foreign delegations are attending the Congress, to run until Sunday, February 10.
