Cuba Rejects US State Dept Report

The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) rejects the disrespectful allegations contained in a US State Department report on human trafficking and the inclusion of Cuba in the worst category.

A statement from MINREX North American Department director Josefina Vidal describes as "shameful" the libelous claims, which deeply offend the Cuban people.

"The sex trafficking of children in Cuba does not exist; instead, our country carries out excellent work in the protection of children, youth and women," Vidal said.

Legislation and measures adopted in this sphere place Cuba among the countries in the region with the most advanced rules and mechanisms to prevent and fight against human trafficking, Vidal said.

This US slander can only be explained by Washington's desperate need for justifying, with any pretext, the persistence of its cruel policy of the economic, financial and commercial blockade it has imposed on Cuba for more than 50 years, a blockade that is overwhelmingly condemned by the international community.
